The History of Treffpunkt
1995	Sprachschule Treffpunkt – German Courses in Bamberg The language institute "Treffpunkt" was founded in 1995 as a private language school in Bamberg and is now one of the leading providers of "German as a Foreign Language" in Germany. Treffpunkt is a school for language enthusiasts from Bamberg and all over the world. In addition to the language courses themselves, the institute offers a cultural and social program, language tandem partnerships, and highly popular, free weekly meetups (Stammtische).
2005	Sprachinstitut Treffpunkt – English courses in Bamberg Since 2005, the language school originally known as "Treffpunkt" (now the "Sprachinstitut Treffpunkt Bamberg") has been offering English courses in Bamberg. Companies and private individuals take advantage of these services—either at the school's beautiful premises on Hauptwachstraße in the city center, or through "in-house training" at their own locations. The effective instruction has already won over many residents of Bamberg: the school features small groups, ensuring that everyone has ample opportunity to speak. In addition to courses for very small groups, the institute also specializes in one-on-one English tuition.
2008	Learning languages via the internet – Treffpunkt: an online meeting point Thirteen years after the founding of the language institute Treffpunkt, a new development emerged—one that was considered "revolutionary" at the time: online learning! An international automotive supplier based in Bamberg took on the experiment. Today, Treffpunkt provides German instruction from Alaska to Japan, and English instruction throughout the German-speaking world. Adults, as well as teenagers and children, learn online for a wide variety of purposes—whether for professional reasons, daily life, exam preparation, or simply for fun—thereby enhancing their language skills.
2010	Learning + living in the language teacher's home –Treffpunkt home tuition. Another addition to the school’s portfolio is the Home Tuition programme: living with the teacher and learning with them on a one-to-one basis, not only in lessons but also during activities and meals together. German from sunup to sundown. An intensive programme tailored to different objectives and target groups, home tuition suits adults and teenagers alike. Ideal when learning German for the job or daily life, for an official exam or for school. A language course in the morning is followed by practical sessions to put German into practice whilst walking or skiing, cooking or swimming, reading together or having discussions. A new programme - intensive and highly effective.
2016	**Sprachinstitut Treffpunkt becomes Sprachinstitut Treffpunkt Bamberg and Sprachinstitut TREFFPUNKT-ONLINE** In 2016, the language school underwent a restructuring. Kristina took over the school's physical location in Bamberg—offering German and English courses—and founded "Sprachinstitut Treffpunkt Bamberg." Her dedication has paid off: today, the institute is a highly regarded destination for German and English instruction. The original founder, Alexandra, established "Sprachinstitut TREFFPUNKT-ONLINE," where she further developed the online courses and the home tuition program. This new structure allows for a more client-focused range of in-person, online, and home tuition options. Students can seamlessly transition from a language course in Bamberg to continued study online from home; conversely, an online course can be supplemented by an intensive program at the school in Bamberg or a home tuition arrangement. By combining the energy and commitment of two dedicated individuals, Treffpunkt ensures the most vital element of the learning process: continuity.
2018	Sprachinstitut Treffpunkt becomes an official telc test center and receives FDSV certification We have been a certified telc test center since 2018, offering you the opportunity to take the renowned telc examination. We therefore possess extensive experience with both telc exams and exam preparation. Also in 2018, we became one of the first three language schools ever to receive the coveted FDSV certification—a distinction we have maintained ever since. The FDSV (Association of German Language Travel Operators and Language Schools) is committed to ensuring that language learners can study safely and reliably through the implementation of clear standards, transparency, and protective measures.
2023	Language Institute Treffpunkt offers stays for young people In 2023, the first youth group arrived at our language institute, Treffpunkt. Since then, we have regularly welcomed other youth groups—for instance, school classes or groups on educational trips. Furthermore, we prepare young people from all over the world for attending school in Germany.
2025	Language Institute Treffpunkt opens its own examination center Having its own examination center offers clear advantages for the language institute "Treffpunkt": it provides more space and, above all, greater tranquility. In 2025, the language institute opened a second location at Obere Königstraße 40—situated within walking distance of the main site and fully accessible.
2026	Treffpunkt commits to the FELCA-GAELA guidelines. Ensuring the highest quality in our offerings is a key priority for us—and we are more than happy to be held to the most rigorous standards. In 2026, we committed ourselves to the FELCA-GAELA standards by signing a formal pledge to uphold these quality benchmarks. The FELCA-GAELA guidelines are a joint initiative of FELCA (the Federation of Education and Language Consultant Associations) and GAELA (the Global Alliance of Education and Language Associations). Language schools that operate in accordance with the guidelines set forth by these two organizations—as we do—provide students with excellent instruction and the best possible experience while studying abroad.
